10:50 pm - it's a wrap... soon...
man,

so i haven't updated in quite a while. sue me.

basically, this summer i've been unemployed - i was laid off at the sock factory. in this time, i've been acting as the lead in an independent film (title - imaginary you) for most of this summer. it's been a stressful time, not limited to mosquito bites, sunburns, poison ivy outbreaks, bee stings, loss of sleep, loss of a social life, and stress on my relationship, my body, and my mental well-being. 14-hour days, back to back, most of which was spent outside - either in the fields exposed to the sun, or deep in the woods surrounded by mosquitos, bees, and poison ivy... i've also had the pleasure of working with an actor who has been in the films blue chips, natural born killers, the fugitive, and the negotiator... so that's been an experience in itself. but this coming saturday, we wrap principle photography... i'm SO happy. not that i haven't enjoyed acting in this film, but it'll be nice to have a halfway normal life back - and i can get back to being selfish and working on my own projects.

other than that, it's business as usual. right now i'm working at the cinmat, watching sammy terry host "the devil's own (aka the witches)" from a tape from back in the '80s... it totally rocks.

David: I gotta tell you something. I'm really excited about it. Uh, for the first time, today, I woke up, I came to the store, and I - I feel confident to say to you that if you don't take this Michael McDonald DVD - that you've been playing for two years straight - off, I'm going to kill everyone in the store and put a bullet in my brain!

Paula: David, what do you suggest we play?

David: I don't care. Anything! I would rather - I would rather watch "Beautician And The Beast". I would rather listen to Fran Drescher for eight hours than have to listen to Michael McDonald. Nothin' against him, but if I hear "Yah Mo B There" one more time, I'm going to Yah Mo Burn This Place To The Ground!

-- david (paul rudd) to paula (jane lynch) in the 40 year old virgin

ps. the song "the adventure" by angels & airwaves (tom "blink182" delonge's new band) is the fucking shit. that is all.

10:50 pm - where we're going... we don't need roads!
man - i'm so fucking pumped. a week from saturday, kara and i are going to see alkaline trio play bogarts in cincinnatti. bogarts is one of my very favorite venues EVER, and alkaline trio is like the best band in the world, so trust me, all is right in the world. it's pretty cool - alkaline trio is calling this tour "the occult roots of alkaline trio," and they're playing all of this early shit and rare shit that they never play... i'm SO psyched.

other than that, things are alright. i was laid off from the sock factory a week ago, so i'm going to be getting unemployment until i find another job. it kinda sucks, but i really didn't like the sock factory and it was too long of a drive, so it's good that i'm being forced to find something else.

not much else is happening, except that farmers are shooting at marty mcfly on my portable dvd player. they don't know he's from the future... craziness.

current mood: fucking psyched
current music: back to the future on my portable dvd player

10:25 pm - ho-hum... uggh... splat.
man, i've got the drearies bigtime.

it's really cold outside, my eyes burn from staring at the computer screen from 8a-530p, then again from 8-now (and until midnight when i get off work), and no one has come into the store for over an hour. crazy and dumb. i'm really glad that the winter storm is on it's way... it may get me out of a day's work, and i really could use it. sleep and i aren't on good terms, and i'd love to try to patch up the relationship.

i read kim's livejournal post and it made me really yearn for england. i'm not sure if i'll ever get to go there again, but i'm having a very weird sense of withdrawl. i haven't felt this way since about a month after i got home... i mean, i was in london for five months in 2000, and NOW i'm missing it?!?!?!? anyway, specific things come to mind: long walks through a cold london evening, sunday mornings at speakers corner, sitting in piccadilly cirucs, seeing so many plays and musicals (including the first performance of RENT in london)... i'd love to go back.

life is also kinda shitty at the moment. at the top of my finance troubles sits my jeep... this past thursday, the transmission went out on it and cost us 1300 to fix it, plus another 250 for the rental car. i really can't see how my financial luck could get any worse. also, this working two jobs thing has finally started to wear on me. i've been doing it for nearly a year and a half, and only in the last month have i really felt it start to wear down my energy and positive thinking. i could really use a vacation.

so yeah. that's it. i've been wanting to write lately... i've definitely wanted to update mad media, but honestly, the free time that i have has lately been devoted to kara and the cats, reading (right now it's stephen king's cell, playing video games to destress, and watching movies (recently loved: a history of violence, the hills have eyes, and dave chappelle's block party).

ok, that's it. i have work to do. i am at work. fuck.

current mood: tired
current music: +44 - no it isn't

10:24 pm - nowhere to fall from all-time lows...
yeah, so going back to work sucks.

the sock factory shuts down every year between xmas and new year's rockin' day. actually, this year it was shut down from noon on the thursday before xmas until jan 2nd. that seems like a lot of time, but really it wasn't.

friday - monday kara and i were in scumuncie doing family shit. this was ten times worse than usual because my grandma passed away the sunday (one week) before xmas. let me tell you that it sucked and move on. things were alright-not-great and grandma and grandfather's house on christmas eve. it was weird without grandma. the rest of xmas was pleasant but very rushed, trying to see kara's family, my mom's family, and dad's family - plus my friend keith in scumuncie.

presents:

grandma/grandfather:

the book the historian
the soundtrack to the movie version of rent

dad/melinda:

colonge (sp?): kenneth cole's black (a giftset which included a bad ass watch and a bad ass carry bag)
a stocking containing various goodies
a new coat (fucking badass black pleather with grey stripes)
money clip containing... you guessed it, money!

mom/dave:

the book son of a witch (the sequel to wicked)
star wars episode III: revenge of the sith

kara's folks:

war of the worlds 2005
green day's bullet in a bible
a badass alkaline trio shirt
kara's mom knitted me a totally bitchin' black scarf
a photo of me eating labdoba

anyway - the family treated me very well this xmas. my best presents, however, came from where they usually come from: my best friend keith and my girlfriend. keith made kara and i shirts for a real life indiana women's softball team - the eaton beavers. it's the fucking shit... totally funny. i haven't been brave enough to wear it out of the house... yet.

kara got me the first season of south park, dario argento's the bird with the crystal plummage, some awesome vans deck shoes (white and black checked), and best of all, the pinky violence collection, a dvd set of some of the craziest asain explotation films from back in the day. it came in a neon trapper keeper of sorts with a cd of some of the music. kickass!

after returning to bloomington on monday (the 26th of dec), i began my every other day of work at the cinemat. i worked monday, wednesday, friday, and sunday. in between, kara and i watched a lot of movies and celebrated the new year with keith, his wife angie, and our good friend canadian dan. it was a nice but low-key event. brain-cells were destroyed, i assure you, but it ended with the five of us passed out on the living room while the menu screen for john carpenter's the fog (the original) played in a continuous loop. kara and i woke up around 4:45 (we passed out around 2:30) and went to bed.

and then starting this past monday, my schedule has been back to normal... and it sucks so bad. reality has hit, and a shit ton of bills are due and i have a paycheck from the sock factory (my main income) for two holiday days. uggh.

and just to make sure i know that the new year sucks as bad as the last, we have a new neighbor who asked to borrow a dvd within five minutes of meeting me. he is annoying as fuck and i'm fearful that he's going to break into the apartment. i hope my fears are for naught.

anyway - that's really it. this entry is long and i have some dvd's to check in.

current mood: tired

8:53 pm - you call him doctor jones, lady!!!!
haha... now i now some of you fuckers read this and miss me! woe unto you!

nah, i'm just fucking with you. i love you all and miss you all.

no really i do.

yeah, that's the ticket.

ah, so... where to begin?

maybe the banal, usual junk first: things are going pretty hunky dory ok here in bloomington. kara and i are still surving - we have somehow managed money enough so that we can eat regularly. it's crazy. do people actually do this? haha. joking. anyway, we also (if i haven't updated since then, or just haven't had the thought to post it) have opened our doors to two cats - 1 to 2 year old john, a muscular short haired grey cat, and george, a black, sleek halloween-cat looking kitten of roughly 31/2 to 4 months. they both rock severely. john is (usually) calm and chill and george is... well, if george was human, he'd ride the short bus to school and wear headgear.

work is work. the sock factory was a major pain in my ass this week, but today was much better than the rest of the week. the video store is actually alright. i've made a few friends from working here, and i get to sit around and talk movies for eight hours a week. rockin. i do it the rest of the week for free at home, so i might as well be at work getting paid for it.

and i paid off two major personal debts this month. i rule.

tomorrow i'm going to a wedding in angola, indiana. it's north. it's a healthy drive. i don't really wanna go, but my buddy sam is getting married, and i'll be able to see brandon (one of my two best friends) whom i haven't seen in over a year (he moved to huntsville, alabama). so, that will be cool. but the drive sucks - gas prices are the devil.

that's really about it. recently, i've seen the films oldboy, the aristocrats, crash, sin city (yeah i know i'm behind), family guy presents: stewie griffin: the untold story, and crash. i can honestly say each of these films are worth watching, with oldboy,/i> actually entering my top 10 of all time. i thought that crash was overrated (and i'm talking the new one, not the david cronenburg car crash/sex movie), but still enjoyable.

i think that's all for now. halloween is fast approaching. possiblities for my halloween season plans include seeing alice cooper perform, seeing a one night only theatrical screening of the unrated director's cut of george a. romero's land of the dead, or even seeing a theatrical screening of friday the 13th part 3, in 3-D!!!!! wow. i'm pumped.

i'm out.

maybe the best simpsons line ever:

bart: dad, when i grow up, i want to be just like you.
home: do you want to change your name to homer junior? the kids could call you "hoju!"
-- the simpsons, marge vs. the monorail (season 3)

brilliant.

in other news, i'm putting the children of the good folks over at Anchor Bay Entertainment through college... or soon will be... they just released the gorehound zombie classic, the dead next door, and they are soon to release dario argento's trauma and the card player. and that's just this month... there are so many important horror releases coming out this quarter... halloween is a busy time for me.

i just finishedhouse of leaves. i'm not writing a formal review. the book was excellent, but not without it's faults... it was a total mindfuck, but sometimes i felt it was clever for the sake of being clever.

i don't have much other news.

8:54 pm - rest in peace, big man...
so, some sad news (for me, at least)

matthew mcgory, best known as tiny in house of 1000 corpses and the devil's rejects, or for you non-horror buffs, the giant in big fish passed away today... he was 32 years old... that's SO sad. he's been in a lot of films, and i've seen him do a lot of interviews - he seemed like a great man to me. to quote dreadcentral.com, he was a huge man who's physical stature was only dwarfed by the size of his heart.

i'm not going to link imdb, but you should go there and check out a few of his films. he was in the guiness book of world records for having the biggest shoe size ever. very sad that he died, indeed. i know a lot of cinephilles will miss his presence in the world of film... well, i'm not sure if a lot of people will miss him, but i will.

9:11 pm
it's been a long time...

in the news... hmm... i went to warped tour a week ago wednesday. it was so fucking hot outside, but the bands rocked. band of note: my chemical romance played - they were great, but i enjoyed their show at the emerson early last year much more (mostly because the emerson is a smaller venue and the show was more intimate). also, billy idol played and WHOOPED MY ASS. well, not literally, but wow, the fucker still has it in him. easily one of the best acts of the day. the band that gets my best band at warped for 2005 would have to be the horrorpops. these psychobillys are from denmark (i think?) and they totally rocked. they hadn't eaten or slept in 48 hours - due to a van breakdown in colorado - but they still put on a hell of a show.

kara & i got sunburnt so bad... i was discomforted, but kara had 2nd degree burns on her shoulders, back, and chest... complete with blisters. i felt so bad for her. i aloed her and gave her painkillers. she appreciated it.

other than that, not much of note has happend. work continues to be work, i finished Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in a week... the only problems i really had were the book were as follows: a) it was way too short, b) it went way too fast, which is actually an indication that it was really good, and c) i really felt that some of the side-characters were kind of just thrown in to be seen very shortly, then never seen again... i mean, the book was pretty short, and if rowling had fleshed out the books with some good scenes or subplots with more of the familiar ensemble characters, maybe she would have continued to push Harry Potter into a classic level... but that being said, The Half-Blood Prince was still a totally enjoyable read.

i'm reading house of leaves right now. it fucking rocks.

other than that, nothing. the cats are rocking - john continues to be a rad, chill cat with moments of utter spazzing, and george is in that playful/retarded mode of being a kitten.

that's it.

out.

“The writer B. R. Meyers remarked in The Atlantic, ‘research could prove that cows love Jesus, and the line at the McDonald’s drive-thru wouldn’t be one sagging carload shorter than the next day. Has any generation in history ever been so ready to cause so much suffering for such a trivial advantage? We deaden our consciences to enjoy – for a few minutes a day – the taste of blood, the feel of our teeth meeting through muscle.’

If reason and morality are what set human beings apart from animals, then reason and morality must always guide us in how we treat them, or else it’s all just caprice, unbridled appetite with the pretense of piety. When people say that they like their pork chops, veal, hamburgers, or foie gras just too much to ever give them up, reason hears in that the voice of gluttony, willfulness, or at best moral complaisance. What makes a human being human is precisely the ability to understand that the suffering of an animal is more important that the taste of a treat.”

11:35 pm - a meditation on four favorites...
television's the west wing: this is, by far, the best tv show that has graced primetime in the last couple of years. i think it has some of the best writing, interesting stories, and great characters played wonderfully by excellent actors (three standouts being Martin Sheen as President Josiah Bartlet, John Spencer as Leo McGarry, and Allison Janney as C.J. Cregg). The show has won numerous awards, including Emmy Awards for Best Drama Series (multiple years) and Outstanding Actor/Actress for a majority of the cast, some with multiple Emmys (Allison Janney has FOUR!!!! - she FUCKING rocks). I don't know how I got sucked into this show - Kara had watched a few episodes in a class she had and said it was pretty good. She got the first season on DVD for Christmas - and ever since then, we've been hooked. WOW. What a fucking show, man. If you don't know, you need to ask somebody. Recommended.

fast food's taco bell: yeah, it's kinda gross, but admit it... you love taco bell. you need taco bell. this minute. and guess what, fuckers? toxic hell is usually open. late into the night you can get your drunken stoner night owl sexfiend hungers satisfied in the form of americanized, grease-fuel taco type foods. the plus side to the bell is that they serve mountain dew on tap and most of the menu items can be ordered sans meet, with your choice of adding bean as a substitute. so, for the veggies like me, this is a great convience. only subway comes to mind as a veggie friendly fast food joint. and they serve moutain dew. oh, and they have sporks! hello! make a run for the border right now, fool.

playstation 2's tony hawk's "pro skater" series/tony hawk's "underground" series: this is where we start having fun, people? are you with me? eh, well, too bad. you're gonna hear about me being geeky. well, more geeky. i've been playing the tony hawk games since they debut on ps1 when it was still called "playstation" and we had to walk a mile uphile in the snow to get to our internet cafe. in tony hawk's pro skater 1- whatever, you usually play tony hawk or another skater and you compete level by level scoring more points for access and tricks and yada yada yada. this is basically a sports series - an x-games sport, but still kinda just a sports game. i still dug it. then, tony hawk's underground, or thug, arrived to kick my ass all over again. thug 1 and 2 are basically skate tour games, with more open levels and a story line. i love these games - especially the underground games. it's all about hand speed and agility (eww - get your mind out of the gutter). the game has a killer punk/hardcore/hiphop/rock soundtrack by mostly rockin' bands and in the newest game, you get to skate as wee-man. i met him at warped tour. he's a midget.

literature's harry potter books: i really hate it when people say "blah de blah is the the new blah de blah." why is everything a remake? even if it's not a remake, people try to make things into remakes. it's because the general public like safe and familiar. i hate it. but, i'm doing it right now : "harry potter is the new chronicles of narnia or lord of the rings, without the ultasmart subtext and the dusty dndgeek turned college prof histories." whew. at least when i do the "it's the new" thing, i make it interesting. look, harry potter is not deep stuff. it's great writing for the age group intended ( the child in all of us, cue the the sappy afterschool special music here), and it's innocent but intelligent. and it's fucking entertaining too. i'm trying to finish book 5 (i'm a bit behind) before book 6 comes out.

current mood: at work
current music: seance on a wet afternoon via cinemat tv...

11:26 pm - mawwage... mawwage is wot bwings us here today...
here come the brides, man.

so my best friend keith got married on the sunday before memorial day. jennifer sheridan, the angela chase to my brian krakow for four years of high school, gets married saturday. that's weird. i mean, there are no residual feelings in that arena - jennifer and i became even better friends after high school - we were close enough for me to consider her my best friend who happend to be a girl. she went to school at isu, in terre haute, and we kept in contact during those years. see, i was REALLY bad about keeping contact with my friends - i burned many a bridge before i learned that it was dangerous to do so... and, well, like others before her, jennifer and i grew apart. she is now a teacher up north, and i haven't seen her in literal years - i'm not sure when i saw her last.

but kara and i are going to her rehearsal dinner tomorrow night, and the wedding saturday.

and you know what, fucking kudos to kara. not only has she totally been into going to the wedding, she actually is happy to go with me. so many of my friends have girlfriends who would act needlessly jealous and bitchy about the whole situation, but kara's a cool kitten and she knows the score: jennifer and i are friends - plain and simple. yes, i had a total crush on her for four years, but c'mon - it was pure and chaste puppy love. it turned into a much closer friendship, and a relationship between us wouldn't have lasted a month, i'm sure of it.

and anyway, kara's my main squeeze.

and, oh yeah, i'm going to see my favorite director's new film tomorrow.

good news.

great news. wow. fuck.

i got a promotion at work. the boss called me out of the blue to offer me a position, and they we're going to post it until the offered it t me. totally rad. so now, for the first time in over two years, i'm working first shift. it's a desk position (my own office - fuck) converting art files into the files that go onto the knitting machines to make the socks.

i'm totally pumped.

i'm excited that it's not a production job - that is, my pay stays the same if if fuck up or if i kick ass. that's rockin'. also, having a normal schedule is fucking amazing. i've MISSED having my nights free. granted, i've been asleep before midnight every night, and before 9 a few nights - but i'm getting caught up. two years, man... i've missed sleeping 8 hours more than once a week.

rad rad rad.

in other news, i'm going to muncie this weekend for father's day. whoop de fuck.
